RMS Band

WELCOME TO THE RMS BAND! WE HAVE A GREAT YEAR PLANNED FOR ALL BANDS AND I AM SURE YOU WILL ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE OF MAKING MUSIC!

This is a general outline of information that you may find helpful during the course of the year:

BAND ROOM DIRECT LINE IS 754-322-4331 or e-mail john.nista@browardschhols.com Please do not leave messages at the front desk!

Jazz Bands and marching band will start right after Labor Day in September. Rehearsals run from 8:00 am until 8:55. Students must use the band room door on the west side of the school for entrance as no students are allowed through the doors in the front of the school. Students may use the band room in the morning for practicing, however, the band room is not for socializing with your other friends that are not in the band.

I am usually in school from 8 am until 4:30 (up to 5:30) I have no problem with students staying after school to practice or help out in the band room. Once again this applies to all band students only.

Band Supplies - You are responsible for the following daily:

1. Instrument
A. School rental - $20.00 per year -Parents can make checks to RMS. Students must fill out School Board Contract along with Parent Signature prior to receiving instrument. These instruments are used and do not come with a mouthpiece. Students are expected to purchase their own mouthpiece.

B. Rental/Purchase through a music vendor. (Highly recommended by director)

2. Music Accessories - Every instrument needs certain accessories for performance. We will have extra mouthpieces that students may borrow in order to perform. We will also sell reeds to students on an emergency situation. Students are expected to have basic accessories for their instruments in class.

3. Wire Music Stand - Students should keep this at home and will be brought into school when we have school concerts or performing in the community.

4. Tuesdays will be our mandatory reading days for 30 minutes a period. Have your instruments as we will perform immediately following our reading.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Mrs. Fox will be our office manager and trip cordinator. You may contact her on our direct line. You will see her almost daily. Feel free to ask her any questions in the event I am not available.
