Unified Arts Peer Center- A Peer Mentor is a person who cares about other people and talks with them about their thoughts, feelings and normal teen issues. They receive two quarters worth of training in the following areas: Communication skills, decision making process, self-assessment, interpersonal skill development, intrapersonal skill development, tutoring and study skills, active listening, conflict resolution, mediation, harassment awareness, violence prevention, research skills, and technology driven presentations. The Peer Mentors are a cross section of our school's stakeholders and are looked upon as role models. It is an honor to be a Peer Mentor. Technology- This class teaches students about various aspects of technology: Aerospace, Electronic & Control Systems, Engineering Structures, Multimedia Basics, Video Production, Communications, Waste Management, Lasers & Fiber Optics, Graphic Design, Construction & CAD, Aerodynamic Design, CNC Milling, Embroidery, Power & Energy and Pneumatics. Physical Education- Students in Physical Education are exposed to lead-up games and activities. Activities are varied, and focus primarily on learning good sportsmanship and being a team player. All activities are played both indoor, in the gymnasium, and outside, on the Basketball courts and fields. Students are not graded on athletic ability, rather, the focus is on participation, and active learning. Also, In accordance with The Florida Sunshine State Standards, for reading and writing across the curriculum, and, in addition to dressing out and participation, each student is required to complete ONE typed written or computer generated essay pertaining to Sports, Health, Nutrition, Or Recreation, during the quarter. Essays should follow the standard guideline for writing an essay. It is the students' choice which area of interest he or she would like to write about. As your child's Teacher, our goal in Physical Education is to create a safe, fun and positive environment where each student is encouraged to lead an active, healthy, lifestyle which promotes wise decision making in how he/she spends his/her leisure time. We feel that those choices and decisons made in the middle school years, will lead to a healthy mind and body, lasting into adulthood.
